Self-reflection and the new year go hand in hand. The darkest part of the year is a time for looking inward, transformation, and making room for the new. But what does this mean at an organizational level? How can a department self-reflect, for instance?
For me, this involves re-evaluating what has worked and what hasn't, then considering the strategy through March and the next quarters. From a grants management perspective, you might ask: How can we improve upon our policies and procedures? Do we even have grant procedures in place? Do we have an internal system for applying, accounting, financial administration, and reporting of grants? Is this system used by all departments of the city or county, including our grant administrator(s) and accounting staff?
Those are some big questions, but our new downloadable handout, developed by local government auditor and eCivis partner Kevin Harper, CPA, offers answers to get you started if your procedures policy is wanting or lacking.
