President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden recently announced $600 million for targeted training and apprenticeship grant programs to help Americans land middle-class jobs.

The funding goes toward two grant programs: a $500 million* job training competition encouraging collaboration among community colleges, employers, and industry to design training programs geared toward the jobs that employers need to fill, and a $100 million apprenticeship program.

The larger Department of Labor program is part of the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training grant program, known as TAACCCT (eCivis Grants Network code US10193). Applications are due July 7, 2014. The apprenticeship program will launch in the fall.

The fact sheet on the programs can be found here: http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2014/04/16/fact-sheet-american-job-training-investments-skills-and-jobs-build-stron.

*Per the federal notice of funding availability, while the DOL "was initially appropriated $500 million in TAACCCT funds for FY2014, the total amount of funds available is $450 million" as a result of sequestration.
