Grants Network: Grants of Late Summer Due in the Fall

We thought we'd highlight a few of the grants whose applications are due in October and November (with one exception).

1. BJ's Charitable Foundation (Select States)

Enhances and enriches projects that primarily benefit children and families in need. Supports projects addressing the following four areas within the communities that BJ's serves:

  • Hunger prevention: alleviating hunger through the purchase of food, supplies, and additional resources for shelters, food banks, soup kitchens, and food pantries
  • Self-sufficiency: providing homeless families with a safe place to stay and access to other support services, including supplies and clothing
  • Health care: making health care more accessible to underserved populations by providing free medical clinics and health-prevention services, as well as supplies for vision, dental, and hearing screenings
  • Education: facilitating academic and vocational programs for disadvantaged individuals by providing supplies for literacy skills, mentoring, tutoring, and career development

Who can apply? 501(c)(3) public charities.

Submission deadline? October 5, 2012.


2. Nuclear Education Curricula Development Grant

Supports university-level programs that increase courses, studies, training, curricula, and disciplines that pertain to nuclear safety, nuclear security, and nuclear environmental protection. Projects should develop curriculum in the following technical areas:

  • Nuclear engineering
  • Radiochemistry and radiobiology
  • Health physics
  • Materials and mechanical engineering
  • Reliability and risk analysis
  • Electrical engineering
  • Safeguards and security
  • Human factors and human reliability
  • Fire protection engineering
  • Nuclear waste
  • Computational methods

Who can apply? Regionally accredited U.S. public and private institutions of higher education.

Due when? October 3, 2012.


3. Distracted Driving Grant Program

Provides incentive awards to states enacting and enforcing laws prohibiting distracted driving. At least 50 percent of the award amount must be used for the following purposes:

  • To educate the public through advertising about the dangers of texting or using a cell phone while driving
  • For traffic signs that notify drivers about the distracted driving law of the state
  • For law enforcement costs related to the enforcement of the distracted driving law

Who can apply? All states, D.C., and territories.

Due when? October 9, 2012.


4. Clean Green Energy, LLC.: Wind for a Better Community

Provides free, clean power to eligible applicants via Wind-e20 vertical axis wind turbines. Cost savings generated by the turbines may be reinvested into the community by the award recipient.

Who can apply? Municipalities, schools, public service sector organizations.

Due when? Apps accepted on a rolling basis until March 31, 2013.


5. USArtists International Grants

Promotes the representation of American performing arts at the international level. Assists American artists in enhancing their creative and professional development through participation at international festivals. Supports American dance, music, and theater ensembles, as well as solo performers, that have been invited to perform at international festivals.

Who can apply? Dance, music, or theater ensembles, or solo artists, including practitioners of folk and traditional forms, working at a professional level. Applicants must be designated as 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, or have a U.S.-based fiscal sponsor that is designated as a 501(c)(3).

Due when? September 7, 2012, for projects taking place between November 1, 2012, and October 31, 2013; December 7, 2012, for projects taking place between March 1, 2013, and February 28, 2014; April 19, 2013, for projects taking place between July 1, 2013, and June 30, 2014.
