If you're a Grants Network subscriber, you probably already heard about the anticipated release of the Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) opportunity from our daily/weekly email alerts. Well, the AFG guide has just been released (in GN as US1280A), and applications can be submitted beginning June 11. Gather your resources fast: The deadline is just around the corner—July 6!
From the stats we see, AFG competition is getting tougher. In 2011, FEMA received 16,491 AFG applications and funded just 10% of submissions (1,714)—compared to an 18% funding rate in 2010. And with fewer awards have come increasingly higher award share averages: $97,447 in 2009, $115,387 in 2010, and $199,447 in 2011. Good luck and get going!
The best case scenario is to win both federal and foundation grants.
