The EPA is launching the Water Finance Clearinghouse, a web-based portal to help communities make informed financing decisions for their drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure needs. The Clearinghouse will provide communities with a searchable database with more than $10 billion in water funding sources and over 550 resources to support local projects. The funding agency will also host webinars in July and August 2017 to provide communities with additional information regarding the Clearinghouse.
The Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) program partners with Indian Housing Authorities and Tribally Designated Housing Entities (TDHEs) to place volunteers in strategic areas to help in the fight against poverty and to assist in capacity building for organizations. For the 2018 solicitation round, ten AmeriCorps VISTA spots will be available. This webinar, scheduled for 3:00 p.m. ET on August 14, 2017, will provide an overview of the program and address questions from prospective applicants. Prospective attendees may register online.
This program requests feedback from industry, academia, research laboratories, government agencies, and other stakeholders on issues related to PV technology pathways. The purpose of the program is to gather insight for the strategic planning of the funding agency’s SunShot Initiative. Responses must be submitted via email by 5:00 p.m. ET on August 14, 2017.
This award program recognizes nonprofit organizations that have created impactful initiatives to generate sustainable streams of revenue. 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations from the states of Arizona, Colorado, Minnesota, and Utah may apply. Three organizations will be selected from each state, one to receive a grand prize of $10,000 and two to receive runner-up prizes of $2,500. Applications open on August 14, 2017, and must be submitted by September 8, 2017.
This program recognizes museum and library programs that build community cohesion and serve as a catalyst for positive community change, including programs that provide services for veterans and military families, at-risk children and families, the un- and under-employed, and youth confronting barriers to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)-related employment. Public and nonprofit museums and libraries are eligible to be nominated or to nominate themselves. Nomination forms must be emailed or mailed to the funding agency by October 2, 2017.
The NSTA recognizes exceptional and innovative science educators on a yearly basis, intending to raise awareness and exposure for the outstanding work being done in the science education field. These awards will be disbursed during the funding agency’s dinner gala on March 16, 2018, in Atlanta, Georgia. There are a total of 20 awards available, ranging from awards to outstanding aerospace educators to awards for new teachers. Applications and nominations must be submitted online, generally by December 15, 2017. The funding agency will host two webinars related to award programs, one on October 12, 2017, and one on October 18, 2017.

This program will allow students from across the globe to create paper monarch butterflies and send them to students in Mexico. Children in Mexico who live near the monarchs’ winter sanctuaries in Mexico will protect the paper butterflies and return them in the spring. The program will unite children and celebrate the spectacular migration of monarch butterflies. Symbolic monarch butterflies must be mailed by October 13, 2017.
California HCD is redesigning the state’s CDBG program to reflect budgetary shortages, address low expenditure rates and high levels of unspent program income, and meet federal requirements, all while ensuring the program is effective at serving the needs of California’s rural and non-entitlement communities. HCD will hold public listening sessions across the state in order to hear directly from stakeholders about their experiences with the CDBG program and what should be considered in the redesign process. Sessions will be held in Sacramento, Marina, Anderson, Ukiah, and Visalia. An online listening session will also be held. Prospective participants can RSVP online.
This program will recruit 20 pollinator habitats each year in Iowa and Illinois (10 in each state) to showcase proper site selection and preparation, appropriate plant species composition, and ongoing maintenance requirements for the establishment of sustainable pollinator-friendly habitats. Yards, farms, city lots, private parcels of land, schools, and nature centers may be nominated. The program will offer a cost-share award to applicants who improve pollinator habitats on their lands. Awards will be for up to $1,000 and will cover 50 percent of costs. Applications must be mailed or emailed to the funding agency by September 30, 2017.
The Arizona Department of Education will hold a free webinar on developing STEM in the classroom for grades K-2, 3-5, and 6-8. The webinar will explore the STEM disciplines, examine STEM literacy practices, dive into an engineering design challenge, and allow participants to create their own STEM lessons. Prospective participants must register online.
These workshops will present a series of disaster preparedness training for libraries and humanities-collecting institutions. Each two-session workshop will take place in three locations in the north, central, and south regions of the state. The workshops will focus on risk assessment, disaster plan development, salvage priorities and salvage methods, and wet material recovery. Participants must attend both sessions of workshops, which are planned for October 19, 2017, and December 1, 2017 (north); October 17, 2017, and November 30, 2017 (central); and October 18, 2017, and November 28, 2017 (south). The attendance fee is $50.
This program promotes excellence in the classroom by recognizing and rewarding Georgia’s most effective educations and by making examples of their practice available to Georgia’s teachers and education leaders online. The 2017/2018 competition will focus on teachers that excel in blended learning and personalized learning, innovative practices to close the achievement gap, language and literacy, and science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM) applied learning. Winners will receive stipends of $5,000 and another grant of $10,000 to support innovative practices in their schools. Teachers must be recommended by principals, assistant principals, instructional coaches, district staff members, language and literacy specialists, or funding agency staff. Teacher recommendations must be submitted online by September 1, 2017.
