Are you a local government leader looking for creative ways to solve the challenges of your small city or town? The National League of Cities (NLC) has done a stellar job promoting small cities across the United States (#smallcities15), sharing stories of small cities that are leading innovation and supporting vibrant communities. These stories include that of Maricopa, AZ (proud to have you as an eCivis customer!), one of the featured cities at the Big Ideas for Small Cities conference held in March and a great example of how to get creative when you have the challenges of a big city without the resources.
According to Mayor Christian Price, Maricopa was one of the fastest-growing cities in America, with a population surging by 4,089 percent from the city's incorporation in 2003 to 2008. In his words of advice to other small cities experiencing high growth and commensurate growing pains, "If you want to have a successful city, then ... you better enjoy where you live. We had to change the narrative of the city ... to where we believed in ourselves, that we could do this, that we could overcome these challenges even though we were so young." You can read about other small cities making big impacts in their communities and setting new standards in leadership, including:
- Artesia, CA
- Red River, NM
- San Marcos, TX
- Kennedale, TX
- Dunedin, FL
- University City, MO
